Next-Level Wellness in the Mountains, in the Desert, and across the Seas

In partnership with our friends at Celebrity Cruises

“Wellness” can be a loaded word. For us, it’s a holistic mind-body-soul experience, the ability to log out of the Zoom matrix and tap into the self. Now the tools to accomplish the tapping in, those are purely individual. For some, it’s a week on horseback in the wilderness. For others, it’s the spiritual centering only a stark desert landscape can provide. And for many (if not most), it’s about access to a body of water. A salty spray, the lapping of waves, the light beaming across the sea and into your stateroom as you look out toward the uninterrupted horizon…should we keep going?

Herewith, three top-notch experiences: ranching at Rock Creek in Montana, star-gazing in Sedona, and (goop-curated) programming and offerings aboard the Celebrity Beyond.

Well-Being on the Water

A proper vacation, where every detail is in somebody else’s capable hands, is tough to beat. Add a deep feeling of ahhhhhh that only the ocean can bring—far from the city with its myriad demands and distractions—and sign us up. Celebrity Beyond is the newest ship in the Edge Series, and the holistic onboard wellness programming is truly next-level. Plus, GP is Celebrity’s new well-being advisor, adding plenty of goopy touches and experiences. (Hint: Expect goop-approved products in the AquaClass fitness menu, our favorite clean smoothie, and a few surprises along the way.)

On the ship, wellness is a daily practice, and it starts in the AquaClass staterooms designed by Kelly Hoppen, CBE. There’s a pillow menu (a pillow menu, people!) to promote good posture, and there are in-room yoga mats: We recommend slipping out of your fluffy bed at dawn, unrolling the mat on your veranda, and saluting the sunrise. Along with clean, plant-based eating at Blu, you’ll have access to the SEA Thermal Suite (the Salt Room is beyond) and a kitted-out fitness center with a full roster of classes including F45, Peloton, and yoga. But it’s the Women in Wellness program we’re most excited about. Why? We can’t wait for the golden nuggets of practical, feel-good wisdom, exclusive classes, and treatments from wellness wonders like Ruth Zukerman, cofounder of SoulCycle; lifestyle expert Kimberly Snyder; and our own wellness director, Kiki Koroshetz. A cruise vacation is a happy marriage of exploration and finding time to just be—with the sea as your soundtrack.

Rewild in Big Sky Country

Montana: Wide-open spaces, the intoxicating Americana of it, and so much horseback riding all draw you right in. Think of the Ranch at Rock Creek as your base camp to unwind and recharge. Simply put, discomfort doesn’t exist here. Accommodations include giant canvas cabins, cozy homesteader wagons, and double-decker log homes—all outfitted with local textiles, potbellied stoves, and charm aplenty. Staff will tuck you in with a whiskey sour, truffled popcorn, and the softest blankets of your life for a screening of A River Runs through It. On that note, the riverside picnics are legendary. But we’re here to ride.

Private guides and real-life wranglers keep your gallop in check as you traverse the wild sagebrush hillsides and pine trails. (Scott Dunn will create a bespoke itinerary if you feel like covering more ground.) The ride is exhilarating and absurdly freeing. Thundering hooves, whiffs of that sagebrush, and the wild beauty snap up all the real estate in your mind, leaving no room for to-do lists, unread emails, etc. Rock Creek also has a fantastic wellness program for massages and facials, a certified herbalist on staff to whip up personalized tinctures, yoga nidra meditation for better sleep, and forest bathing for better everything.

Recharge in the Desert

Spiritual and starkly beautiful with a side of woo-woo is a fairly apt descriptor for Sedona. The otherworldly landscape, the mystical energy pumping through the red desert dust: It’s palpable. Better still, Sedona is rich with incredible healers and practitioners. And you should take full advantage—after all, the energy vortex is on your side.

Speaking of healers, two stand out. Adele Sands has a small horse ranch adjacent to town where she does sound baths and Reiki. And Anne Emerson is an intuitive and a muscle tester. (Emerson also works remotely, which makes her a great choice if you want to continue unpacking old programming long after returning home.) Where to stay? L’Auberge de Sedona feels perfectly constructed for the current wide-open-spaces-loving moment. Occupying both a cliff and a shady creek bed on eleven acres, the accommodations are mostly cozy cottages complete with fireplaces, outdoor showers, and serious views. But airy homes-away-from-home and excellent food aside (don’t miss 89Agave Cantina), it’s the spa with its astronomer-led starwatching, sound baths, yoga, and staff who can point you toward the area’s most powerful vortices and hikes that have us checking in (and checking out) every time.
